This generation of the Ranger, the fourth available in Europe, is significantly higher than the previous, 2007. It measures 5.36 meters long and has a wheelbase of 3.22 meters. They are 29 and 22 inches taller than the previous model. It's the largest pickup for sale in Spain, with a little larger than that of a Nissan Navara or Isuzu D-MAX.
You can choose between three versions, all Diesel: 125 or 2.2 TDCi 3.2 TDCi 150 hp and 200 hp. These engines than those who had the previous -2.5 Ranger TDCi 3.0 TDCi 143 hp and 156 hp.
All three versions have a standard manual gearbox with six speeds, while the two higher power (150 and 200 hp) may optionally bear an automatic transmission of an equal number of ratios. All versions are all-wheel drive (4x4), although single cab variant is also available with front-wheel drive (4x2) and 125 hp engine.
The Ranger Double Cab 2.2 TDCi 125 hp is available from € 29,392. It is priced slightly higher than a LS200 Mitsubishi 136 hp and Volkswagen Amarok 122 hp. There are two models of Mahindra much more affordable than any of the above. They are available from a 19 000 and € 22 500.
The TDCi 200 bhp version of Ranger is dispnible from € 41,735. It's a higher price than a Volkswagen Amarok, a Mitsubishi LS200, a Nissan Navara or Toyota Hilux.
The least consumed Ranger engine is 125 hp (7.6 l/100 km). The difference with the 150 hp version is almost a liter and of almost two compared to 200 hp. Automatic versions 0.9 l/100 km spend more than manual, the same engine. Faced with the alternatives, the Ranger 125 hp has a low consumption, similar to some of them, not the 150 hp that is the biggest spender. The 200 hp version consumes more than most pick up between 170 and 225 hp.
Like other pickup truck, the Ford Ranger has suspended parallelogram with coil spring in front and rigid axle with leaf springs rear.Take disc brakes in front and drum in the rear.
Depending on body type, load capacity is higher or lower. The most useful in this regard is the simple cabin, which can carry up to 1265 kg in case you have AWD and 1107 kg if it is front wheel drive. The extended cab variant can charge to 1179 kg, while the double cabin reaches 1077 kg. The maximum towing capacity of 3350 kg.
The three body versions differ in the number or type of doors opening. Thus, in the simple cabin there are only two. In the extended cab and rear are four are small and open in opposite direction of travel. In the double cabin there are four and all open conventionally.
The most suitable for carrying passengers is the double cab because, although the extended cab also has five seats, the backs are much smaller. In double cab variant exist about 23 holes to objects.
Equipment and other details
In the Ranger Double Cab can choose from four levels of equipment: "XL", "XLT", "XLT Limited" and "Wildtrack". The latter is only available for the 3.2 TDCi engine 200 hp with AWD.
From the more affordable version are standard features like six airbags, stability control, hill start aid ("HSA"), Hill Descent Control ("HDC") and air conditioning. No version can carry, not even as an option, as elements with sliding wheel or xenon headlights.
The version equipped ("Wildtrack") is standard equipment much like dual zone climate control, rear-view camera generated image looks in the rearview mirror-browser or alloy wheels 18 inches. It also has a slightly different look to the rest of the range.
This is the fourth generation of the Ranger which is marketed in Europe. The other came on the market in 1997, 2003 and 2007. It is sold in 180 countries. It has been designed and developed at the headquarters of Ford in Australia. For Europe, is built at Ford's plant in South Africa. It also occurs in Thailand, for Asia-Pacific markets, and in Argentina, for South America.
