It is available from $ 845000, although the first 918 units, of which will be produced-not be delivered until November 2013. It is based on the Porsche 918 Spyder concept car presented in 2010.

The Porsche 918 Spyder carries a gasoline engine 4.6-liter V8 (located behind the passenger compartment) that produces 608 hp, capable of rotating at 9150 rpm-and two electric, one in the front of 129 hp and another in the ass 156. The combined power is 899 hp. The petrol engine and the electric motor drive the wheels of the rear axle and functions as a parallel hybrid system, that is, each of the can move by itself or work together.

The electric motors are powered by the energy stored in a lithium-ion battery capacity of 7 kWh, liquid-cooled. It can be charged on a standard household outlet and has a seven year warranty. According to Porsche, with the charger supplied as standard, in Spain needs a load approximately four hours. Optionally two others will be offered lower the loading time of two hours in the first case and 25 minutes in the second. It also has a system that recovers some of the kinetic energy of braking and converts it into electricity.

It has five driving modes : " E -Power ", " Hybrid ", "Sport Hybrid ", " Race Hybrid " and " Hot Lap ". In driving mode " E -Power " is capable of traveling up to 30 miles without using a heat engine , provided that the battery has sufficient charge . Also accelerates from 0-100 km / h in less than seven seconds and reaches 150 km / h .The acceleration of 0-100 km / h is done in 2.8 seconds when all engines are running . The average consumption is about 3.0 l/100 km , according to the European cycle " NEDC " - " New European Driving Cycle " - . This corresponds to a carbon dioxide emission of 70 g / km.On the concept and benefits of the 918 Spyder rivals McLaren are the P1 ( 916 hp) and the Ferrari LaFerrari ( 963 hp) , both hybrids .The suspension on the front axle by parallelogram and rear multi-link type is . In order to save small obstacles at low speed , speed bumps , curbs etc. . - There is the option of installing a lift on the front axle electro (Porsche uses a similar system in the 911 GT3 ) . Management has electromechanical assistance . Has a rear axle directional rotation angle up to three degrees. At low speeds the rear wheels are moved in the same direction as the front wheels do at high speed in the same direction . Is a system similar to having the 911 GT3 , 911 Turbo and Turbo S. The gearbox is automatic gearbox ( " PDK ") and the brake system consists of ceramic discs (" PCCB ").The Porsche 918 Spyder has an active aero system with three adjustment programs - " Race ", "Sport " and " E -Mode ' - . It consists of a moveable rear wing , some hatches on the underside of the car, next to the front axle and air intakes under the headlights . Depending on the program selected, these elements change their position for maximum or minimum drag.

Unlike the prototype shown in 2010, the model shown in this text has a roof made of different manually removable panels that can be stored under the hood. The monocoque is made of different materials, including fiber reinforced plastic carbon ("CFRP").

Optionally, provide the optional Porsche 'Weissach'. This package includes the roof, rear wings and windshield frames from carbon fiber. Inside, the leather panels are replaced by Alcantara and aluminum moldings by carbon fiber. Also take a few belts with six anchor points and a magnesium alloy wheels. According to Porsche, the car's weight with this package is 1640 kilos (35 kilos more if not taken).

Porsche says the 918 Spyder has some features of models like the Carrera GT and prototype racing as the 917, with which Porch achieved his first two victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971, or the RS Spyder, that marked the return of Porsche racing "SportPrototipos" in 2005.
